False Fedex Virus Alert!

What is the Fedex Notice virus?

Watch out for attachments that say they are from the UPS/FedEx

Malware writers are very poor souls who just sit around and conjure up ways to attempt to get your machine and infect it by using what looks like an absolutely normal email from your Post Office saying your package was not delivered or that it will be delivered.

In that email that you received you will have an attachment which may look like a office document and "POW" when you open it you are infected and you won`t even know till it is too late.

These infected emails are being sent out around the world from here to Timbuktu.

Spam emails and bots have infected machines globally for a very long time by small minded people sitting in front of a computer screen with nothing better to do.

Make sure you keep you Anti-Virus Software updated with all the latest database information scripts and watch out for random emails from someone you may know and from people you may not know that have attachments.

Watch your Anti Virus Software very carefully as they may quarantine some files.

These quarantined files need to be deleted if you cannot verify where they have originated from.

Below is a quote extracted from the FedEx® website

These fraudulent e-mails are the unauthorized actions of third parties not associated with FedEx. When FedEx sends e-mails with tracking updates for undeliverable packages, we do not include attachments.

Windows 7 Desktop Icon Size

Have you ever thought that the Desktop icons on your Windows 7 PC were a little bit too small or even thought they could be a bit smaller?

Here is a nifty little trick to get the Desktop Icons and Shortcuts just the size you want them

  • Close/Minimise all windows so that you are looking at your computers Desktop
  • While holding the "Control"(Ctrl) Key use the scroll wheel on your mouse to either increase or decrease the icon sizes depending on which way you scroll!
This trick also works within web pages to increase or decrease the size of the webpage. If you ever want it back to the default size just hold Ctrl and press the 0 (zero) key.

Hopefully you can use this useful little trick to save some time and make webpages more friendly to read.

Hardy Hard Drives

Do you use a portable Hard Drive for backing up your personal data and keeping other documents and files safe?

What would happen if you accidentally dropped this drive and lost all the data on it?

Well recently the crew at Silicon Power have released a portable hard drive that is designed specifically to give additional physical protection to your precious data. It's called the Armor A80 and it really is a solid piece of hardware.

This drive has been specifically designed to be extremely shock-proof, water-proof, and dust-proof to give you more piece of mind for your data.

Some tests performed include:

  • Water Resistant Standards- This has to survive 30 minutes 1 meter underwater and still fully operate afterwards
  • Meets U.S. military drop-test standards- Dropped 26 times from 1.5 meters onto every angle of the drive
  • Anti-pressure and anti-dust function testing
The drive uses USB 3.0 which is the newest version of USB and can transfer files up to 10 times faster than the previous USB 2.0 standard. If you don't have USB 3.0 then it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
The Armor A80 is a 500GB drive so there is plenty of room for anything you may want to protect.

If you have data that you absolutely cannot afford to lose then you may want to consider adding this additional physical protection to the data for extra peace-of-mind.
